How to install games on a TI-84 Plus CE

Putting games on a TI-84 Plus CE takes about ten minutes the first time. You send a few files from a computer, run an installer once, and the game app appears in your APPS menu. These are the steps, in the order that works.

Step 1: check your OS version

Press 2nd then MEM then 1 (About). The OS version decides whether you need arTIfiCE. Older versions run C programs without it, while OS 5.5 and newer need arTIfiCE.

Step 2: install TI Connect CE

Download TI Connect CE from Texas Instruments for Windows or Mac and plug the calculator in with its USB cable. This is the program you use to send files.

Step 3: unlock C programs with arTIfiCE (OS 5.5 and newer)

arTIfiCE is a free tool that lets the calculator run C programs. Follow the version for your OS: v2.1 for the middle versions and v3 for the newest. v3 needs a RAM reset, so archive anything important first.

Step 4: install Cesium (recommended)

Cesium is a free menu that makes running C programs easy and installs itself into your APPS menu.

Step 5: send the CalcX files and run the installer

Make a free account at calcx.store, add your calculator, and download the files from your account. Send them with TI Connect CE, open CXSETUP from Cesium and press ENTER. CalcX is now in your APPS menu and you can delete CXSETUP.

For the black-and-white TI-84 Plus

You only need TI Connect CE. Send CalcX.8xk to the calculator and open CalcX from APPS. No arTIfiCE or Cesium is needed.

The install guide on calcx.store asks your OS version and shows only the steps you need, with every download in one place. You need to be signed in to download the files.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a computer to put games on a TI-84 Plus CE?

Yes. You need a computer with TI Connect CE and the USB cable that came with the calculator. Games cannot be installed from the calculator alone.

Why does the calculator say it cannot run my program?

On OS 5.5 and newer, C programs need arTIfiCE. If a program will not start, run arTIfiCE first or check you sent every file, including the graphics files.

Will updating the OS remove my games?

Updating or reinstalling the OS can remove apps and unlock tools. Keep your files on the computer so you can send them again.
